Milton Cottage has been my home for 30 years. It's a wonderful hideaway tucked away in the Scottish Borders 40 minutes drive from Edinburgh. You may like to know a little about the cottage and Manor Valley. |
The river running through the garden is Manor Water which is a tributary of the River Tweed where wild trout and salmon return each year to spawn. If you take a short walk up the hill behind the cottage you can find Roman ruins, as well as an incredible view. Milton Cottage is over 300 years old. The walls are 2’6” thick. In the past the cottage was a mill house and later it became a piggery. The animals were transported by horse and cart over the hills to Lyne Station en route to market. In fact, my sitting room used to be the stables! The valley has a strong agricultural industry and a population of just 60 people. You really should take a drive up Manor Valley right to the end. The scenery is truly stunning. Great walking country and ideal for cyclists visiting Glentress for mountain-biking. I hope you enjoy your stay in my home and its beautiful surroundings. Thank you for choosing to stay here. Peggy MILTON COTTAGE, KIRKTON MANOR PEEBLESSHIRE EH45 9JH TEL: 01721 740 267 OR 07762 576 536 |
